Fencing does not work. The silly things fly. The chickens make a point of eating tomatoes, especially if they're only just ripening or ripe. Some of the edge plants are trampled and broken.

Any advice would be very much appreciated...

This is a tough question. My suggestion is keeping the farm fowl in their own fenced in area.  When I was small we had a chicken coupe, that had a nice large area that they could be outside in that was completely fenced in.  That way they stayed out of the gardens.
