Where could be the best location for a garden, at the back yard or at the front yard? How important is it to know the proper place for a garden? I would be glad to hear some recommendations from you regarding this.

I think that depends on different things, including the geography of your neighborhood. If you had a lot of traffic close to your garden in the front or back yard, I'd avoid planting vegetables or flowers near the path to avoid them being taken.

Maybe a rock garden with shrubs and plants that are less likely to be picked would be better for high traffic areas.

In this case I believe that you would have to ask your self several questions:

What type of plants do you want in your garden?
What type of soil do you have front vs. back?
What type of sun/shade does the front vs. the back receive?
Who do you want to see your garden your or your neighbors or people passing?
Are you trying to attract birds to your garden for bird watching, if so will you want them in the front or back?

So many questions to be answered for you to get started, hope these help you come to a decision.
Thank you and Happy Gardening! ~ Sarah

That's an interesting point about attracting birds. My in-laws have birds who tend to raid their berry patch. My wife says it's her parent's fault, because they have a decorative sign that says "Welcome To My Garden."

By the way, what kind of flowers would you plant to attract birds?

I have flower and foliage garden in my front yard and the vegetable garden at the back.
I also have trees planted at the back where I can swing in my hammock during hot days.

I, too, have my vegetable garden in the back yard. It is nice and sunny there, and it is easier to water the plants since I have a hose in the back. We plant flowers in the front yard, I think it is beautiful, I'd rather have passers-by see flowers than veggies.

Those were really nice suggestions. I guess, if I have a flower garden, I should try to put it in front. Surely, my garden would make our house more attractive to people, am I right?

What kind of garden are you planning to have? If your plan to have vegetable garden, I suggest you put it on the back. For me, plants would receive more sunlight at the back than in front.

For me, I would prefer that my garden be placed in front. It would be a good idea as well so that my neighbors would be encourage to have a garden in their homes. What do you think?
