Im working in a garden that had a big Red Hot Poker coming out into the lawn. I have dug it out and recovered the area to be re-lawned, but am wondering about all the roots that are there.

I was going to just dig them out to a reasonable depth (6inchs or there about), then just tuff over the top, hoping that if any small shots come up from the redhotpoker, then they will be got by the mower.

Does anyone have any better suggestions?

Many thank Guys

Boiling hot water might do it, but that will also kill the little critters....and too depends on how prolific/inexhaustible the plant grows. If it grows from seed, digging will bring seeds to the surface to germinate. If it grows from roots and stems, digging can be a never-ending story. If the plant doesn't grow very aggressively, I think your plan will work.
