It depends on how your plants are growing. If they are robust, you do not need to fertilize them.

I'm in agreement with all the posted comments.  I really try to read up on my plant types and what type of soil requirements, or what type of soils they like.  Some plants prefer a particular soil pH and thrive in that environment and would flower if the soil environment is not correct.  Try to read up on your plant types and then you'll know if and when you'll want to fertilizer or add soil condidtioners.

Thank you and Happy Gardening! ~ Sarah

Is your soil unhealthy? My aunt would tell me that fertilizers are only used when the soil is unhealthy that's why plants don't grow. These are nutrients that every plants need. It would be best if you use the organic one.

When your plant is growing healthy, I think you shouldn't put too much fertilizer. The soil has its own natural nutrients. If you decide to use one, use the organic fertilizer. These are more environmental friendly than the chemical one. Do you agree?

If your plants are robust but don't give flowers, maybe you need to balance their nutrients. You have to study which nutrient it lacks and give it to them. Do not give complete fertilizer.

Aerate before you put down the grass seed. Wait a month to a month and a half for the grass seed to get established before fertilizing.

I would suggest having a soil test completed to determine if fertilizer is needed.
