Hand Print Stepping Stone  submitted by stephanieb
It is very easy to make a stepping stone from scratch...and it makes a perfect gift for family members or as a momento of your child as they grow up.

Supplies Needed: • Molds • Cement • Bucket • Trowel / flat object to smooth cement • Stirring Stick • Decorations: paint, jems, rocks, marbles, pottery chips, etc

Directions:   1. Place a couple layers on newspaper down on your work surface 2. Measure 2 ½ cups water into a bucket. Stir in 5 lbs cement. Mix well with a stirring stick 3. Add another 5 lbs cement and mix until it reaches the consistency of cake batter. (Add more water / cement if necessary) 4. Position your mold on a flat surface and pour in the mixture. Shake the mold gently to even out the cement and then smooth out the cement and let dry for about 1 hr. (It is ready for decoration when a fingerprint pressed into the cement does not disappear). 5. Now you can decorate the cement and add your child’s fingerprint. Have your child spread their fingers apart and press firmly to make their handprint in the cement. Add additional jems, rocks, marbles, pottery chips or writing to finish your design. 6. Let the stone sit for several days (at least 48 hrs) before removing it from the mold. Turn the mold upside down over a thick towel and tap on the back until it releases the stone. If you'd like, you can further decorate the dry stone with paints and clear coat spray paint.
